23 Dec 2003.

Soon I will begin updating most areas of this site, one at a time, extending over the next few months. I will be adding new content, expanding some areas, and eliminating others.

Some resources for genealogists will be included, like old phone listings for the lake Minnetonka and Minneapolis area.

Included in the update will be a rural landowner listings for all townships in all Minnesota Counties at the turn of the 20th Century and the relative plat map type graphics to show the location of their property. (about 4000 maps with searchable name listings but it might take a little while because it's just me working on it... in my spare time.) I have about 80% of the material needed and will start digitizing it, and map making, soon. Even if you aren't a genealogist it's fun to look at it, so bookmark this page and come back.

I am collecting information on locations of rural one room (or few room) school houses in Minnesota townships. If you went to such a school, please come back and view the maps to find your school. I would like to create a listing of all of them by Name and location and collect any related information (anectdotes, graphics etc) the public may have. Many people believe that the State has all this information ... but sadly they don't have very much, and beyond location generally little is known.

Some old maps now in the public domain in a tiled format (so that a high degree of detail may be shown.) will also be posted.

Added will be more historical information and graphics related to Minnetonka and some related to nearby towns. I will probably reorganize the Minnetonka related postcard section and expand the number of graphics, improve the quality of some and increase the amount of textual information found there.

A section relating to the history of commercial steam boats on Minnetonka is also planned... but I may include this material in the old postcard section of the site instead.

I also intend to update, and improve the Tonka Trucks section of this site with more information and photos.

If you have sent mail and have not heard back from me it's probably because your mail was erroneously seen as spam and deleted. The situation that caused this to happen appears to be resolved. Also on a few occassions I lost my ability to maintain the site or communicate for an extended time (months). If you needed to communicate with me and your mail was lost, please try again. THANK YOU for visiting. I hope when you return the site will be much improved.

If you send email please make your mail  SUBJECT  line:  MOUND or it may be lost in a sea of spam.

Thank you for visiting Sandy's Town.

Highschool Mound High in August 1999 before demolition began and pictures of the razing .... (200+ pics) at least what happened after I returned in late November. If anyone owns photos of what I missed, or old pictures of the school and is willing to share them on the web let me know.  I'll be happy to post them and credit them to you. The alternative is that the people who care the most may never in their life time get to see them.

Mound A Walk Through Mound December 1999 (70+ pics)   The school was so well built that the machine  was breaking down. While waiting for repairs on the CAT,  I took a few short drives and some long walks. I took a few pictures, and figured what the heck, why not put them on the web for people who maybe haven't seen Mound for many years. Some are probably curative for insomniacs,  but then they may be better than nothing. I'll try to get better ones when I return to Minnesota. If you have old pictures of Mound, you, your family members or friends in Mound or a landmark or location that 'some' other Moundians could recognize, the same comments I made above about the school apply here as long as the picture(s) are, for legal reasons, at least 30 years old or close to it.

History Historical Mound ... (350+ and growing) In my travels around the www I occasionally find an old picture or POST CARD which relates to the Minnetonka area and I really enjoy looking at them even though most are of poor quality. I am posting what ever I find in case there is someone else like me out there who also is an ex Moundian (Mohawk) or Minnetonkian, and who may be home sick.

Of course we know that "home" is a place in time as well as in space.

Not Mound NOT Historical Mound ... Items being circulated as being of Mound, but which are highly suspect for various reasons. ... Maybe you can shed some light on what they really are, or why you think they are, or are not, of Mound. Only a couple items now but I'm sure there are many potential additions out there so maybe I'll find a few more.

Maps MAPS  of the area . This slide is of  Mound east of Commerce Blvd to Seton.  I have a map of the Minnetonka area and an aerial photo now, but I will be adding more.

Tonka TONKA... (180+ and growing)  a little history, including information about Edward C Streater, and some observations, links and a few dozen toy pix from the forties through the sixties. This particular truck in the slide was manufactured by people of the Mound area around 1964 - 65.

Do you have old photos, documents or other ephemera from Tonka Toys or it's history, or information about the people who were involved in it's history? That would include the people who actually built the toys, and supported the operations? Did you work for Tonka in Mound? What did you do and how did you do it? Who did it with you? ... Anectdotes? Obscure facts? whatever... Send your comments or narrative in email and attach any digital images in JPEG (.jpe .jpg) or GIF format. I'll post them with attribution to you.

Not Mound

Songlist Sandy's Music List site listing over 10,000 top forty songs and the artists by year from 1950 to the late 1970's.  No cuts and no lyrics, just a big list. The slide is of Lil' Red Riding Hood ... top of the charts the last week of July 1966. The files are large so loading will take a little while.

calendar Sandy's Perpetual Gregorian Calendar. If you want to know what day of the week it was. Any "it" between 1583 and 2109. While probably 100% correct it was created by an amateur, so if you use it for anything considered to be important you do so "at your own risk". I tried to be very accurate and have not been able to find any error, but I make no guarantee. If you find an error please email. Thanks..

powerball Sandy's Recent Powerball Statistics Page. An analysis of the Powerball numbers, how often they've been drawn, and approximately when, in graphical form. I will try to keep this reasonably up to date. Like the calendar ... while probably 100% correct it was created by an amateur, so you use it "at your own risk". In other words you may buy your lotto ticket and NOT ACTUALLY WIN the powerball! (However, if you WIN, I hope you'll remember your old friend "Sandy" ;-) If you find an error please email. Thanks. (Of course I have NO affiliation with the Powerball or State Lottery.).

Mars Put your NAME on the Mars Explorer which will be sent to the red planet in 2002 by NASA. They are trying to gather as many names as possible. It is FREE of course and only takes a minute. You can also see some pictures I placed here of the recent MARS ORBITER launch taken from Jetty Park. ... ... obviously you can no longer include your name.
